Provincetown Theater Holds Open Auditions for Angels in America
On the first weekend of February, the Provincetown Theater will hold open auditions for non-union actors for its upcoming 2024 production of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway epic, Angels in America, Part I: Millennium Approaches.
OPEN CALL AUDITIONS: for Angels in America are on February 1, 2, and 3. Thursday and Friday from 6-9pm, Saturday 2-6pm.
Auditions will take place at the Provincetown Theater, 238 Bradford Street, Provincetown, MA 02657. To be directed by the company's artistic director, David Drake, the creative team is especially seeking and encouraging BIPOC performers, as well as trans and non-binary performers to audition. A non-union production, a favored-nations performance honorarium has been budgeted for all performers.
Performers will be seen on a first come/first serve basis. Sides from script are available at Provincetown Theater starting January 22 during business hours, and will also be provided at auditions.
ROLES:
Prior Walter – WASP, gay, male identifying actor 20 thru 40s. While very sick with AIDS, he has a sly sense of humor, a generous heart and a translucent presentation of honesty is key.
Louis – Jewish, gay, male-identifying actor 20s thru 40s. Prior’s lover, he is a native New Yorker, and political animal with a fierce intellect that shields his many fears.
Belize – Black, gay, male-identifying actor 20s thru 40s. A hospital nurse, Prior’s best friend, a sharp sense of humor and deep protectiveness toward those he loves.
Roy Cohn – Jewish, lawyer, ferocious political player, male-identifying actor 40s thru 60s. Evil, funny, cruel, enraged that he is dying.
Joe Pitt – Mormon, neophyte lawyer, dashing, male-identifying actor late 20 thru 30s. While ambitious to become a political powerbroker, he is battling internal religious, sexual, and marital conflicts.
Harper Pitt – Mormon, housewife, depressed, addicted to valium, female-identifying actor 20s thru 30s. Married to Joe, Harper fears that if she loses her marriage, she’ll lose herself. She’s on a journey of self-discovery and independence.
Angel/Emily, Homeless Person – Versatile actor, female-identifying 20s thru 60s. Beautiful speaking voice.
Rabbi/Hannah/Ethel Rosenberg - Versatile actor, female-identifying 40s thru 60s.
Doctor/Businessman/Ghost - Versatile actor, male-identifying 30s thru 60s.
Angels in America will begin rehearsals in early March, leading up to the show’s opening on May 9. Production runs Thursdays – Sundays, May 9 – 26. The rehearsal schedule will be built around actors’ availability and will primarily be on weekday evenings and daytime weekends. All performers receive a financial honorarium for their participation in the production at the end of the run.
