Generous Fire: Charles Dickens In America by Brian McCann at City Theater Company

Generous Fire: Charles Dickens In America, a one-man show starring playwright and Delaware native Brian McCann as the famous author, comes to City Theater Company for two performances February 22 and 24 at 8 PM.

While the presentation is a flight of the imagination, the circumstances are true - the piece is based on the real-life author’s tour of the United States in 1867-68 - and nearly all of the words spoken come from Mr. Dickens himself. 

The celebrated writer has recovered from a stroke, but is in ill health and aware that the end of his life is imminent. The strain of his second American tour has proven too much for him, and his doctor has become his sole traveling companion. The public mask slips, and we catch a glimpse of things "Boz" would never willingly present to his public.
