First Rehearsal (Maine)- April 23, 2024

First Preview- May 9, 2024

Opening - May 11, 2024

Closing - June 8th, 2024

SEEKING:

[JENNA] - Female-Identifying, 20s-30s. A woman stuck in her life as an unhappily married waitress in a small town. Finds some happiness and expression through her meticulous baking of pies and her friendships with her coworkers, Dawn and Becky. Lives her life paycheck-to-paycheck, day by day, and wants nothing more than to get away and start fresh, unbeknownst to her destructive husband, Earl. Has a fantastic pop/rock voice with great range. Mezzo-Soprano.

[DAWN] - Female-Identifying, 20s. She is the youngest of the waitresses. Thick glasses, hair parted 14 centimeters to the left — eccentric is the nice way to say she’s slightly unusual, and not so slightly OCD. She sets the tables, painstakingly ensuring each salt and pepper-shaker is equidistant from the napkin holder. Has an excellent pop/rock/folk voice. Mezzo-Soprano.

[BECKY] - Female-Identifying, early 40s-early 50s. The oldest of the three waitresses. Irreverent, irascible, been there, made it back, and somehow kept her forward and sometimes wicked sense of humor with excellent comedic timing. Has a soulful pop voice with an excellent pop belt. Alto.

[DR. POMATTER] - Male-Identifying, 30s-early 40s. Handsome, endearing, and neurotic. Has a warm, if clumsy, matter. Jenna’s gynecologist with whom an unexpected extramarital affair is born. Has a quirky sense of humor and a big heart, despite the fact that he’s contributing to the affair. Has impeccable comedic timing and moves well. Has a very strong pop/rock tenor that can navigate the musical style of Sara Bareilles with ease. Tenor.

[EARL] - Male-Identifying, 20s-30s. Jenna’s husband. Peaked in high school, handsome in a gruff way, but that face is clouded with broken dreams, drowned with cheap beer. Just enough narcissism mixed with stupidity, to be a potent Molotov cocktail that can explode into unexpected anger one second and then turn into a sobbing mess the next. Guitar playing a plus. Baritenor.

[OGIE] - Male-Identifying, 30s. Strange, yet oddly lovable. Becomes slightly obsessed with Dawn (in a hilarious yet endearing way) after she goes on a 5-minute date with him. Quirky, incredibly persistent, and odd, yet kind. Has excellent comedic timing. Has an excellent pop/rock tenor/baritenor sound. Tenor.

[JOE] - Male-Identifying, 60s-70s. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man who has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), warm at heart. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Very funny. Baritenor.

[CAL, U/S JOE] - Male-Identifying, 40s. [CAL] A chef at the diner. A “Salt of the Earth” guy’s guy surrounded by gals. Brash, impatient, unsentimental, but somehow charming. Has a strong pop/rock voice with great comedic chops. Has a strong contemporary baritone singing voice in the style of Sara Bareilles and has excellent comedic timing. Baritone. Will also understudy the role of: [JOE] - Male identifying, 60s- early 70s. The owner of the diner where Jenna, Dawn, Becky, and Cal work. A seemingly old, curmudgeonly man who has a soft spot for Jenna (and her pie), warm at heart. A sarcastically funny and no-nonsense guy with a keen ability to read people. Very funny. Must have a strong baritone pop/rock. Baritenor.

SEEKING:

[BOBBY CHILD] - Male-Identifying, mid 30s-early 40s. A native New Yorker longing to perform but restrained by his overbearing mother. Our triple threat leading man - a charismatic combo of Gene Kelly’s athletic physicality and Fred Astaire’s stylish elegance. Sings beautifully, taps amazingly and totally charms whether he’s pulling off broad physical comedy or tender romantic moments. He literally sweeps Polly (and us) off her feet. Baritone.

[POLLY BAKER] - Female-Identifying, mid 30s-early 40s. Deadrock, Nevada's All American Postmistress. Our triple threat leading lady - an irresistible cowgirl next door. Spunky and full of life. The Western mash-up of Judy Garland, Ethel Merman and Ginger Rogers. She can belt out a tune with gusto, break our heart with a ballad and make us melt with her dancing skills. Excellent tapper. Can hold her own as the only woman in a town full of men. Open, honest, direct and in spite of her confident swagger - a sweet and surprisingly vulnerable ingénue. Mezzo-Soprano.

[BELA ZANGLER] - Male-Identifying, 40-50s. The imposing, dapper, Hungarian impresario who produces Zangler's Follies. A larger than life, highly successful businessman who can steamroll over everyone except the showgirl he is gaga over, Tess. A singer with great physical skills and timing. Baritone.

[IRENE ROTH] - Female-Identifying, mid 30s-early 40s. Bobby's society debutante fiancé of 5 years. She is always after what she cannot have. Glamorous, sophisticated, chilly and oh-so New York until she gets to Deadrock and lets her hair down with a hot cowboy. Has a razor-sharp edge on the outside and a raging torrent of sensuality on the inside. A singing/dancing comic able to turn this society gal into one sizzling saloon mama. Mezzo-Soprano.

[MRS. LOTTIE CHILD] - Female-Identifying, 50s-60s. Bobby’s mother. An imperious and controlling parent with a business head and a very firm hand – mother KNOWS best. Opinionated. Chairman of the board of a large New York bank. Not in the habit of taking no for an answer. Sings well.

[EVERETT BAKER] - Male-Identifying, 50s-60s. Polly’s father. A slightly befuddled widower still clinging to his memories of Polly’s showgirl mother and a happier time in a bustling Deadrock. A lousy businessman, but a loving and sympathetic dad. Sings well. Baritone.

[EUGENE FODOR] - Male-Identifying, 30s-40s. A jolly and seasoned English traveler writing a guidebook on the American West. Married to Patricia Fodor. Like his wife he is a tireless, adventurous and affable traveler. Always ready to slap a chap on the back and cheerfully tell him to buck up. Comic character with a fun upper crust British accent. Moves well. Baritone.

[PATRICIA FODOR] - Female-Identifying, 30s-40s. Eugene’s appropriately chirpy and zany wife. A seasoned and affable traveler with the cheeriest of British stiff upper lips. Comic character with a fun upper crust British accent. Moves well. Soprano.

[LANK HAWKINS] - Male-Identifying, late 20s-30s. Proprietor of Deadrock’s saloon. An intense, manic, visionary who knows “what’s what”. Unfortunately, and frustratingly for Lank, nobody else in town shares his vision. A singing/dancing comic who can make this cartoon character come to full, funny life. Baritone.

SEEKING:

[DESIREE ARMFELDT] - Female-Identifying, late 40s-50s. Beautiful, charming, self-absorbed. A once-successful actress now touring the country in what is clearly not the glamorous life. Harbored love for Fredrik for years since their affair. Now involved with Count Carl-Magnus when he feels like it. Mezzo.

[FREDRIK EGERMAN] - Male-Identifying, 40s-50s. A successful, widowed middle-aged lawyer. He is married to the 18-year-old Anne and has one son from his previous marriage, Henrik. In the past, he and Desiree were lovers. A tad over-analytical, he often is driven by his head rather than heart. Legit Baritone.

[MADAME ARMFELDT] - Female-Identifying, 70s. Desiree's mother, a former courtesan who has had discrete encounters with royalty, thus acquiring wealth. Strong willed, opinionated, imperious.

[ANNE EGERMAN] - Female-Identifying, 18-early 20s. Fredrik's new, naive young wife, a beautiful child bride who is still a virgin after 11 months of marriage. Frivolous, giddy at times. Quite naïve. Legit Soprano.

[HENRIK EGERMAN] - Male-Identifying, early 20s. Fredrik's brooding son, 20 years old and Anne's stepson. He is serious but confused; he reads the works of philosophers and theologians while studying for the Lutheran priesthood. His sexual repression is a great cause of his turmoil, as he lusts after Anne and attempts to have a sexual encounter with Petra. Should either play or fake playing cello excellently. Legit Tenor.

[COUNT CARL-MAGNUS MALCOLM] - Male-Identifying, late 30-late 40s. Vain, arrogant, splendidly proportioned. A military dragoon who is Desiree's latest lover. Very possessive when it comes to both his wife and mistress. Legit Baritone.

[COUNTESS CHARLOTTE MALCOLM] - Female-Identifying, mid 30s-late 40s. Carl-Magnus' wife, to whom he flaunts his infidelities. She hates his behavior, but acquiesces due to her love for him. A clever and calculating survivor with a wry sense of humor. Easily the more intelligent half of the couple. Mezzo.

[PETRA] - Female-Identifying, 20s-30s. Anne's maid and closest confidante, brash, bold and flirtatious. She has relations with Henrik and Frid. Mezzo belter.

[FREDRIKA ARMFELDT] - Female-Identifying, teens. Desiree's daughter. Self-reliant, very curious. She is wise beyond her years. Soprano.

[FRID] - Male-Identifying, mid 20s-30s. Madame Armfeldt's swarthy country manservant. Has a tryst with Petra. Baritone.

[MALLA] - Female-Identifying, any age. Desiree's maid. Non-speaking, but sings well.

[OSA] - Female-Identifying, any age. Maid at Madame Armfeldt's manse. Non-speaking, but sings well.

[BERTRAND] - Male-Identifying, any age. Page at Madame Armfeldt's manse. Non-speaking, but sings well.

SEEKING:

[SEYMOUR] - Male-Identifying, 20s-30s. A young florist who’s down on his luck. Kind to a fault with a childlike naivete. Despite his clumsiness and lack of social skills, he’s actually very smart. Tenor.

[AUDREY] - Female-Identifying, 20s-30s. Seymour’s coworker, an honest and sweet woman. Sort of clumsy, with a very poor sense of self-esteem. “Views her life as her own ‘B’ movie.” A Fay Wray type. Mezzo-Soprano.

[MR. MUSHNIK] - Male-Identifying, 50s. The owner of the flower shop Audrey and Seymour work at. Quick to anger and extremely profit-driven, to the point of being manipulative. Baritone.

[ORIN] - Male-Identifying, 40s. A sadistic dentist and Audrey’s abusive boyfriend. Tall, dark, and handsome, he’s the kind of tough guy who wears leather jackets and rides a motorcycle. Slightly narcissistic. May also double as parts in the ensemble. Baritone/Tenor.

[VOICE OF THE PLANT/AUDREY II] - Any gender identities and expressions. 20s-50s. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart 'villain.' A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best. Bass.

[THE PLANT (AUDREY II)] - Any gender identities and expressions. Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant.

[URCHINS] - Female-Identifying. Black. 20s-30s. CRYSTAL, RONNETTE AND CHIFFON are the Skid Row Greek Chorus. Young. Energetic with a sharp sense of humor. They are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Strong singers and movers. Mezzo-Soprano.

SEEKING:

[JULIANNE POTTER] - Female-Identifying, Early 30s. Julianne is a captivating, mildly chaotic, woman in her early thirties. She is a successful food critic, renowned for her sharp wit and even sharper judgment. Growing up, she and Michael formed a deep bond, and they made a pact to marry each other if they were still single at 28. Despite her confident exterior, Jules grapples with her insecurities. Jules has a tendency to allow the most prominent emotion she feels to completely override her rational brain, and for much of this story that emotion is jealousy, which leads her to an array of absurd behaviors. Jules is a multifaceted lead character, she can be funny, neurotic, and intelligent – at times in equal measure – and showcases a blend of charm, ambition, vulnerability, with a hint of mischief. Strong aura with an endearing softness. Vocal Range: Mezzo/Belt.

[MICHAEL O’NEAL] - Male-Identifying, early 30s. Traditionally attractive and oozing with effortless macho charisma, it’s easy for everyone to see why Michael has two women longing after him. He is fun, flirty and knows Jules better than anyone. However, despite his God-given advantages in life, Michael often fails to take hold of situations, often showing indecisiveness. He finds the prospects of both independence and commitment frightening in equal measure and holds a creeping insecurity that his job isn’t good enough for his fiancée, Kimmy, and the high-flying family he’s marrying into. Michael is a strong singer with a natural comedic flair. Vocal Range: Leading Pop Tenor.

[KIMMY WALLACE] - Female-Identifying, 20s. Michael’s adoring fiancée. Kimmy is an obviously attractive, younger woman with an innocent naivety about her. She is ditzy, preppy and wants nothing more than to be liked and accepted by Jules, who she undoubtedly pits herself against. She is quietly wary of Jules. Whilst Kimmy presents as the dim blonde stereotype, Kimmy has a steeliness within her that becomes apparent when provoked. She is daddy’s girl within a rich and powerful family. Kimmy is a strong singer and a very strong comedian. Vocal Range: Soprano with strong twangy belt to D.

[GEORGE DOWNS] - Male-Identifying, 30s. Jules’ British gay best friend and confidant. George is a well-spoken, camp and extraverted character. He is unflappable, cheeky, and extremely likable. Despite being more morally aligned than Jules, he still revels in watching the farcical events unfold. Underneath his care-free, jester persona, George is a kind and loyal friend who always has Jules’ best interests at heart. George is a strong singer with inherently funny bones. Vocal Range: Comic Baritone/Tenor.

[SAMANTHA & AMANDA NEWHOUSE] - Female-Identifying, 20s. Kimmy’s bridesmaids. Samantha and Amanda are an interchangeable double act- although closer to the ugly stepsisters. They are uncultured, brash and lack any sort of filter. They are more excited at the prospect of snatching themselves a groomsman at the wedding than supporting the bride to be. They are unconvinced Kimmy is making the right decision, a criticism leveled more so at the institution of marriage than at Michael specifically. Both Samantha and Amanda are strong singers with the ability to play larger than life caricatures. Vocal Range: Pop Mezzo Soprano/Sopranos – with strong skills at holding tight harmonies.

[ISABELLE WALLACE] - Female-Identifying, late 50s-early 60s. Kimmy’s mother. Isabelle is fun, elegant and kooky- an eclectic mixture of characteristics that points towards her having been great fun in her youth- although she is still, in many ways, the coolest person in the room. She is a Romantic and the love between her and her husband, Walter, still shines brightly- still very much teenage sweethearts. Isabelle is a strong singer and competent dancer. Vocal Range: Alto with strong ‘old school’ belt.

[WALTER WALLACE] - Male-Identifying, late 50s-early 60s, Kimmy’s father. Walter is an older, distinguished man. He is the head of the family and a wealthy, successful businessman. Carrying himself with the innate strength and self confidence that only a self-made man knows, Walter shows the social intelligence and soft charm that has made him the success in business that he is. Like his beloved wife, Isabelle, Walter also has a fun side to him and the capacity for spontaneity and surprise. Walter is a strong singer and competent dancer. Vocal Range: Bass/Baritone up to G.

[SCOTT O’NEAL] - Male-Identifying, late teens. Scotty may be Michael’s younger brother, but they do not share the same effortless charm and charisma. It may be down to his youthful age and immaturity, but Scotty is an awkward, shy boy, with a long standing crush on Jules that closely walks the dividing line between endearing and creepy. He is an awkward, post-pubescent boy. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone with a strong Falsetto.

SEEKING:

[ELSA] - Female-Identifying, 20s-early 30s. Reserved and hesitant, yet inherently regal, Elsa makes a stunning new Queen of Arendelle. Yet, for more than ten years, she has been conditioned to harbor fear and conceal her extraordinary magical abilities. Strong belter. Mezzo-Soprano.

[ANNA] - Female-Identifying, 20s. Optimistic, enthusiastic, and slightly disheveled Princess of Arendelle. Naturally funny and courageously fearless, her greatest flaw and her greatest strength is her faith in love. Strong belter with soprano/mix.

[HANS] - Male-Identifying, 20s. The youngest of thirteen brothers, Prince Hans of the Southern Isles is a real charmer as handsome as handsome gets. Anna falls for his open wittiness on the spot – he gets her. Tenor.

[OLAF] - Male-Identifying, 20s A big-voiced snowman created by Elsa’s magic, Olaf is pure innocence, completely content to be anywhere, doing anything. Great singer. Tenor.

[KRISTOFF] - Male-Identifying, 20s – A human orphan raised by Hidden Folk in the forest, Kristoff is a self-reliant ice-seller & Mountain Man whose best friend is a reindeer, for whom he provides a voice so they can have conversations. Kristoff is naturally warm with a good heart, although he’s circumspect about Anna and her mountaintop mission. Baritone.

[WESELTON] - Male-Identifying, 50s. A chauvinistic, intolerant diplomat, the Duke of Weselton seeks any opportunity to get ahead. He seizes on Elsa’s “accident” to spread fear and discredit the entire royal family of Arendelle. Short (under 5’7”) Baritone.

[SVEN] - Male-Identifying. The lovable reindeer & sidekick to Kristoff. Funny, inquisitive and intuitive. Dancers/Acrobats with strong upper body and core strength and stamina to operate a full body puppet. Height minimum 5’10” max 6’2”.
