Alumnae Theatre Company is seeking non-union performers for its March 2024 production of The Children by Lucy Kirkwood, directed by Lori Delorme. Running March 8th – 23rd, The Children will be presented in Alumnae’s Studio Theatre in Toronto.
Synopsis: Two retired nuclear scientists in an isolated cottage on the coast, as the world around them crumbles. Then an old friend arrives with a frightening request. A darkly comic drama.
Character Breakdown: All characters in the age range of late 50s to late 60s.
Hazel: Wife to Robin, four grown children. Precise in her routines and thinking, disciplined, direct (to a fault), protective, cautious, rules her household with a firm hand.
Robin: Husband to Hazel, four grown children. Flirty, mischievous, playful but can sometimes be mean-spirited, resourceful, loves deeply (but prolifically).
Rose: Ex-co-worker to Hazel and Robin, single, no children. Free spirit, off-kilter sense of humour, quietly determined and passionate, a calculated listener, on a mission.
Auditions will be held virtually from January 9th – 11th. Callbacks will be held in-person on January 13th and 14th. Rehearsals begin January 22nd.
Callbacks, rehearsals and performances will take place at Alumnae Theatre. Please note that, unfortunately, Alumnae’s rehearsal and performance spaces are only accessible by stairs.
