The Lionheart Theatre Company is pleased to announce our upcoming open auditions for our May 2024 production of, “The SpongeBob Musical.”

Please note that that Lionheart is Non-Equity, and that all roles are non-paying.

This production is directed by Scott Rousseau.

Audition Dates & Times:
– Sunday, February 25th from 1 pm to 4 pm
– Monday, February 26th from 7 pm to 9 pm

We are casting 16 total performers, all genders, races and identities are welcome.

How to Prepare:

Please prepare one upbeat song with a track for your audition. We will have a Bluetooth speaker you can hook to. There will NOT be an accompanist for the audition, so know that you MUST bring a track.

We will provide audition scenes for cold readings. Please bring a copy of your acting resume and a photo we may keep.

Dance auditions will be held at a call-back on Tuesday, February 27 at 7pm.

You can watch scenes from the musical on YouTube to get familiar with the material. If you are auditioning for one of the main characters, you might watch the cartoon for some character hints. The Broadway show was nominated for 13 Tony Awards including best musical as well as won the Drama Desk award for Best musical.

NOTE: There is also a role of the foley artist (live sound effects person) who is on stage for the entire show. Please list that on your audition form if you are interested.

Show Synopsis:
The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage. The power of optimism really can save the world!

The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.
